WHAT DOES IT PROMISE? To reverse the damage inflicted on hair caused by curlers, straighteners, constant blow-drying and styling. The treatment aims to restore bounce, shine and flexibility, leaving your tresses glossy and manageable. It is estimated 80% of hair damage will be rectified after one treatment. 90% after two and 100% after three. It's recommended a 'booster' session be taken every four to six months.
What's the process? Hair is washed twice with a detoxifying shampoo to remove product remnants. The treatment uses nanotechnology, which is not as complicated as it sounds, to pass minute particles of natural keratin into the hair shaft. Activating the small Tanagra system box in front of the mirror, stylists Kirsten (Toni & Guy Broadbeach) passed a wide-bristle brush, which emitted a fine mist of Keratin, through sections of my hair. It looked like wispy smoke. Working section by section, the process of passing tiny particles into damaged areas took about 15 minutes. Ironically, given the implement that caused my hair nightmare in the first place, a heated straightener was used to seal the Keratin. To get maximum effect, a second repairing mist was used the same way as the first, this time ensuring the keratin particles become permanent and insoluble.
How much? About $75, plus the cost of a blow-dry.
How long? The process took about an hour, but it depends on the speed and ability of the stylist. While most treatments come with a head massage for relaxation, the Tanagra didn't, although it was the most relaxing hour I've spent at a salon.
The verdict? I'm hooked. After just one treatment, I felt like one of those women in TV commercials. Two days post-treatment, my hair is still salon-fresh glossy with a shine I can't remember it having before, and it feels amazing. My hair feels like it did when I was a little girl!
